Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream

Hand-Crafted in Michigan Since 1984 — It’s Bigger Than Ice Cream

Produced by House of Flavors in Ludington, Michigan, Ashby’s Sterling is ultra-premium, hand-dipped ice cream made for ice cream parlors, dip shops, restaurants, hotels and other foodservice operators.

Ashby’s began in 1984 with Tom Davis and his brothers Rick, Gary and Jim. They created Detroit-style ice cream packed with the good stuff, using the same 14% butterfat and 85% overrun recipe Ashby’s follows today.

House of Flavors began in Ludington in 1948, and Ashby’s joined the family in 2012. Today, it is Michigan’s largest ice cream manufacturer, with 250+ employees, 3,400 recipes and approximately 28 million gallons of annual production.

House of Flavors is a purpose-driven manufacturer that helps fund the Protein Foundation, which supports nonprofits and ministries focused on food, shelter, workforce development and belonging. Since 2015, the Foundation and company have given $13.1 million to 50+ charities and shared $16.5 million with the people who make the ice cream.

Every Ashby’s tub supports the Ludington facility and the greater purpose behind it. That’s why Ashby’s is bigger than ice cream.

Ashby's Sterling Ice Cream Parlor

1948 — House of Flavors Begins

House of Flavors’ roots began in Ludington, Michigan, in 1948. Built on a commitment to quality, craftsmanship and community, the company grew into Michigan’s largest ice cream manufacturer and the future home of Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream.

1984 — Ashby’s Sterling Is Born

Brothers Tom, Rick, Gary and Jim Davis launched Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream to fill the gap between supermarket ice cream and expensive premium brands. After testing numerous recipes, they selected the 14% butterfat and 85% overrun formula that still gives Ashby’s its rich, old-fashioned creaminess today.
